In one more post of the tag #FashionMyths, let’s talk about the denim used in social outfits, a subject that causes lots of doubts, specially, for men.

HISTORY

The denim firstly was made in Nimes, French, and it was used to create the sailors’ uniforms. Lately it became the main material used to make pants and uniforms, again, but this time it was the miners who would going to use it. This happened in the United States.

As a resume and to be objective, the denim – as everything in fashion world -, that was a previous uniform for work, reinvented itself and nowadays is a great and versatile material that, we must say, fits almost any kind of outfit – the most simple to the most elegant ones.

YES OR NO?

The great question, specially for men, is that: is the denim pant allowed to be matched in social outfits or to be matched with social pieces of clothes? Well, once it exists many kinds of denim pants, I would say that you should pick one, for this objective, that is more traditional, in a uniform appearance, without rips and this model would fit your social outfit for sure.

The dress code has been changing a lot, so, what was called “casual chic” in the past has already changed nowadays and received lots of permissions. So the denim pants, for example, are allowed in social outfits in many ways, specially for men. Like I always say: everything depends on the complements. Some pretty denim trousers, with the prerequisites I’ve mentioned before can be matched with a social shirt, for example, with nice shoes and a belt. And you can add a blazer, for a much more well-dressed look.

If, for the other hand, you are up to dress some more stylish pants, with low waist, for example, and some rips with a t-shirt and sneakers, your outfit will be much more casual and simples as a result. 

If you have a meeting or a dinner or even a marriage – in which the dress code is not business attire, denim pants are allowed!
